Our environmental commitment
Here at Premier Skip Hire, we have been providing essential skip hire solutions to domestic customers and commercial clients alike for almost two decades. As a responsible waste management provider in the South East region, we see it as our duty to ensure that all material collected from our clients in Banstead, Carshalton, Cheam, Chessington, Croydon, Epsom, Kingston, Leatherhead, Morden, New Malden, Purley, Sutton, Tolworth, Wallington, Wimbledon, Worcester Park, and beyond is disposed of in a manner that is least harmful to the environment.
Our environmental commitment
The main skip yard of Premier Skip Hire is located in the beautiful town of Sutton in our native county of Surrey. We are proud of our association with the region and we love this part of the country. We consider it our responsibility to make sure that future generations are not negatively affected by the corporate actions that we take today. As part of the waste management industry, we are particularly mindful of the impact we have on the environment, which is why are taking steps to limit it.
We take this commitment seriously and, through our partnership with the Environment Agency, we are currently in a position where we are able to recycle 95% of the waste that we collect.
What happens to your waste
Unlike some skip hire companies, when we pick up your loaded skip for collection, we transport it to one of several third-party recycling companies with whom we have a close working relationship. Their job is to sort your waste materials into their separate categories – metals, plastics, woods, paper and cardboard, brickwork and rubble, and so on. With this done, they are able to recycle the composite materials, either at their own facility or by shipping it out to another recycling plant better equipped to handle the work.
This process means that only the bare minimum of domestic and commercial waste thrown out by our customers in Banstead, Carshalton, Cheam, Chessington, Croydon, Epsom, Kingston, Leatherhead, Morden, New Malden, Purley, Sutton, Tolworth, Wallington, Wimbledon, Worcester Park, and beyond will end up making it to a landfill site.
From our perspective, this is great news as the impact our business has on the environment is drastically reduced. For our customers, be they domestic, commercial, or industrial, it means that they do not need to feel guilty about any of the stuff that they are throwing out.
Restricted items
With all that said, there are still certain things that we cannot accept in our skips, without prior approval. These are items that have been designated by the Environment Agency as potentially harmful to the environment, or ones that are potentially hazardous to be handled by ourselves or our partners in the recycling centres.
These items include:
- fridges
- televisions and monitors
- gas bottles
- rubber tyres
- hazardous waste (including paints, oils, and solvents)
- asbestos
If you are in possession of any of these materials or have any queries over what constitutes a restricted item, please ask our team when you book your skip or, at the very least, as our driver on delivery, and we will be able to confirm things with you.
Disposing of restricted items
That is not to say that these materials cannot be disposed of – merely that we need a little advanced warning in order to dispose of them in accordance with Environment Agency regulations. Each of the items on the list must be processed in a specific manner and it is recommended that you leave it to the professionals to do so. Let us know what you’re getting rid of and we can arrange for someone with the appropriate tools and experience to dispose of it for you in an environmentally-friendly manner.
